Detailed information

Product detailed description

Wuyi Oolong Tea - tea from the mountains

This tea is also known as rock tea or yancha, belonging to the darkest and most complex style of oolong with the longest tradition. The tea comes from the Wuyi Mountains (武夷山) in China's Fujian province, specifically from the Huiyuan Keng area, famous for its rocky slopes and unique terroir (tei hua). It is precisely the mineral composition of the soil that gives this tea its unmistakable character.

What are the effects of Wuyi Oolong tea?

  • 🔥 Supports fat burning (high in antioxidants, theine, and polyphenols)
  • 🌿 Improves digestion
  • 🛡️ Contains antioxidants
  • 🧘 Promotes mental and emotional well-being

How is Wuyi Oolong harvested?

Wuyi oolong offers distinct aromas of cinnamon, dried fruit, and chocolate, complemented by deep mineral tones and a long, smooth aftertaste. How does this flavor come about?

Unlike commercially produced oolongs, which are often electrically roasted and made from fast-growing cultivars, our tea comes from the traditional variety Rou Gui (literally “cinnamon”) and is artisanally roasted over fruitwood in several steps. This process takes several days and results in complexity appreciated even by experienced tea connoisseurs. This tea is harvested in the Wuyi Mountains (武夷山), in the micro-region of Huiyuan Keng – the perfect terrain for producing genuine rock teas.

Recommended preparation (gongfu style):

What is the gongfu style? Gongfu is a traditional Chinese method of tea preparation that emphasizes quality, repeated steeping, and mindful approach. A small volume of water and a larger amount of leaves are used, allowing you to enjoy many flavor layers from a single tea.

🥄 Infusion ⏱️ Steeping 💧 Description
1st infusion 10–15 s Serves as leaf opening – delicate, aromatic, with emerging spicy notes
2nd infusion 15–20 s Flavor deepens, mineral tones and body are added
3rd infusion 20–30 s At full strength – strong cinnamon, chocolate, dried fruit
4th infusion 30–40 s Balanced, smooth texture, lingering finish
5th infusion 40–50 s Flavors calm down, subtle sweetness emerges
6th infusion 50–60 s Last intense tones – minerals, woody remnants
7th+ infusion 60+ s Still drinkable but gentler – a great ending for meditation

TIP: Before the first infusion, you can quickly “rinse” the leaves – i.e., pour water over them and immediately drain. This cleans the tea and awakens the aroma.

  • Amount: 6–8 g per 100–120 ml
  • Water temperature: 95–100 °C
  • Number of infusions: 6–8 full infusions (depending on preference)

Discover the power of nature, tradition, and minerals in a cup of authentic Wuyi oolong – a tea that combines a profound flavor experience with natural benefits for both body and mind.

What is the difference between classic Oolong tea vs. Oolong tea Da Hong Pao

Both teas come from the legendary Wuyi Mountains and derive from the Rou Gui cultivar, but each offers a different experience. Da Hong Pao Oolong tea (Wuyi rock tea) is processed in the leaf shape typical of the iconic Da Hong Pao tea, which contributes to a faster release of aroma and flavor. It is distinctly aromatic, stimulating, and thanks to its shape and processing, ideal for those seeking energy, elegance, and functional benefits – such as supporting metabolism and digestion. In contrast, Oolong tea (Wuyi rock tea) represents the classic style of traditional artisanal roasting, with deeper, more stable flavor and mineral complexity. This tea is especially valued by connoisseurs and those looking for harmony, flavor balance, and authentic Wuyi terroir. The difference thus lies mainly in processing style, flavor focus, and intended experience – while Da Hong Pao feels like a noble everyday experience, Wuyi rock tea is a calm return to the roots of tea tradition.
