🌿 How Pu Erh is Produced and Harvested

Tea leaves are harvested, left to wither, then hand-rolled, sun-dried, and fermented. Afterwards, they are either kept as loose tea or pressed into tea cakes (bing cha) or minituoč (Tuo Cha).

Time then plays a key role – the longer the tea ages, the more pronounced and refined the flavor becomes.

Recommended Preparation

  • Amount: 1 gram of tea per 30 ml of water
  • Temperature: 95–100 °C (for aged Pu Erh), 90–95 °C (for young Mao Cha)
  • Steeping: 1–2 minutes, repeat up to 6 times
  • Suitable teapot: Yixing (for aged Pu Erh), porcelain (for younger tea)
  • 1 Pu Erh tea cake = 5–5.5g of loose tea

Warnings & Safety

  • Safe amount: up to 3–4 cups per day (less is more)
  • Higher doses may cause irritability, insomnia, and heart palpitations (due to caffeine)
